Surfing is a popular activity at Titahi Bay beach. There is an 'all tide' break and during periods of onshore winds is generally the best time to hit the waves. The surf breaks offer a vast array of size and skill sets. From Petes Rocks (1.5-2 m), to the famous Locals (1-2m), to the Fishermans (inside 2-3m, outside 3-5m), mainly all on north-westerly swell. This all changes when a southerly swell arrives!
A Surf Life Saving Club has operated for over 40 years in the Bay. Today, the Titahi Bay Surf Life Saving Club is located at the centre of the beach. Patrols are usually in place between noon and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday from December to March.
