The Year of Kai

In 2025 we chose 'kai' as the theme of our activity for the coming year.  It became the foundation of our activity and connections.  A workshop held at our Annual General Meeting sparked conversations and new connections between people already interested, active, and doing great things in the Bay.  Out of this workshop, sprang 'Kai in the Bay', a collective of like-minded people keen to see ideas around kai come to life. 

We've collated all this information to build a kai layer in our community map.

Our Annual General Meeting in September will be a celebration of 'kai', and the launch of our theme for 2026/27....soon to be announced.

Kai in the Bay 

Kai in the Bay is a collective of people interested in foraging, growing, cooking and sharing kai in our community.  The group is informal and has no structure, but regularly communicates, collaborates and gets behind each other's great ideas for local kai.  The collective was formed from conversations started by the Titahi Bay Community Group.

Since the collective formed, together we have: 

• weeded Ngā Hua Ō Titahi community orchards
• got behind St Matthews community meals
• cleared out unused planter boxes to grow pumpkins and kamo kamo
• started shifting kai to share in Titahi Bay at KURA~street~KAI
• set up an orchard Pruning workshop with Hannah Zwartz
• joined the Porirua Kai Collective
• ....and had many more conversations about the kai vision we have for our community.
